It all started with the fatigue. Then the depression set in, then hives, and the inflammation.
I had gained 20 pounds in less than three weeks, even while struggling through a bout of stomach flu.
Something was wrong.
My body wasn’t happy.
I knew my workout schedule had been sporadic. Oh, who am I kidding–it was practically nonexistent.
It was time to get back to work.
It was time to focus on my health again.
Friends had been advising me to try the Whole 30, but I wasn’t sure I could do it. I’m in love with milk, like if I could marry milk I would … that much in love.
Also, withholding food reminded me too much of my past anorexia.
I was worried; could I do it?
Well, I only have five days left, but it’s been awesome.
If you’ve ever thought of giving it a try, I strongly encourage you to go for it.
Here’s why…
1. What do you have to lose?
Sure you can’t have pizza, cookies or cupcakes for 30 days, but seriously it’s ONLY 30 days. If you hate it, you can order a large pizza and chase it with cookies and cupcakes on day 31.
2. You might just surprise yourself!
I’m not sure about you, but green leafy things are not high on my list of foods I love. In fact I’ve avoided green food my whole life. However, this month I’ve eaten more spinach, tomatoes, avocados, and green healthy food than I have in my entire 41 years. That’s progress.
3. Cooking can be fun.
It’s no secret that I hate cooking, and making dinner is my nemesis. But with the Whole 30, if I wanted food I’d have to cook it. There were no easy outs {aka a frozen pizza}. So, I was forced to cook, and I have to say I’ve embraced it, and even look forward to it. Sunday mornings have now been turned into meal prep mornings, and it’s made all the difference for my hectic schedule.
With these three tips in mind, the Whole 30 can change your life.
