Being a mom is sometimes a very thankless job. Sure we get Thank Yous when we ask for them: “Here is your sippy cup– say thank you.” Sometimes I wonder how much my children even realize how much I do around here. To find out I ask them occasionally what they could tell me thank you for. I get lots of “Thank you for making us food,” or “Thank you for doing my hair.” One of my favorites was “Thank you for our family.”
Thinking back on when I was younger, I don’t remember saying thank you to my mom for all of the hard work that she did for our family. She worked a very demanding job, one that required her to travel a lot, yet she still made sure to be at all of our sporting events, talent shows, school presentations, etc. She made sure that we always had something fun to do. She taught us about hard work and responsibility. She showed us unconditional love, and because of her, I am the mom that I am today. Now that I am a mom, I can look back and be thankful for each and every thing my mom did for our family.
I wanted to take a minute to say thank you, to my mom and to every other mom reading this.
Thank you for the hours that you spend cleaning the house and doing laundry so we have a nice place to live and don’t have to run around naked.
Thank you for making us meals, whether they were made from scratch and took hours or came out of a box, it shows that you care and we appreciate it.
Thank you for teaching me right from wrong and for not holding all of those times I could have made a better choice against me.
Thank you for always letting me know that it will be ok.
Thank you for the sleepless nights that you sat with me after a bad dream or during a bout of the flu. You are better than any teddy bear or special blankie.
Thank you for sacrificing your free time to do whatever I wanted to do.
Thank you for running to the store for you and coming back with things for me.
Thank you for spending vacations standing in line at amusement parks instead of on a lounge chair.
Thank you for your magic kisses that heal any owie. Thank you for your tight squeezes that show me that you love me and make me feel safe.
Thank you for giving up your cool sporty car for your minivan. You totally rock that!
Thank you for pretending to like every animated movie that I showed interest in and for being able to name every Disney character that I need help remembering.
Thank you for the countless hours that you spent at work. I know that was hard for you and that you were there so that you could give me more.
Thank you for always being a shoulder for me to cry on and an ear for me to vent to. I love knowing that I can talk to you about everything and that you are always there.
Thank you for always making me feel loved.
Thank you for letting me still be your little girl even though I have a little girl of my own now. Thank you for always being my Mommy.
