Weekend Wednesday: May 30-31

The weekend is approaching and it is time to make some plans.  Here are my Top 5 Picks of this weekend’s activities!

Weekend Wednesday

Saturday, May 30th

Iowa Mennonite Relief Sale 7am-2pm. The 36th annual Iowa Mennonite Relief Sale is a two day event for the whole family. The sale is a fundraiser for the international relief, development and peace-building work of Mennonite Central Committee and is put on by Mennonite congregations in Southeast Iowa.

Family Storytime at the Coralville Library 10:30-11:30am.  Families spend time together listening to stories, music, and poems, and participating in literacy activities.  Programs last approximately 30 minutes.

Monarchs and Milkweed Seed Bombs 10-12pm.  Andria Cossolotto and Patty Ankrum, members of Monarchs of Eastern Iowa, raised monarch caterpillars throughout last summer and released the adult butterflies to the wild. Last winter they traveled to Mexico to visit the monarch winter resting site. Come hear about their experiences and learn more about this amazing insect. Discuss how you can help monarch butterflies survive. Make milkweed seed balls from mud and seed (a.k.a.“seed bombs”); then hike out to the prairie and toss the bombs about, to increase the milkweed diversity of the prairie. We may even spot some monarch butterflies returning to Iowa by then!  Participants will be welcome to take seed bombs home to introduce milkweed into the home habitat. Adults: M $5; NM $8  Children age 3 and up:  $3.

Sunday, May 31st

Sunday Fun-Day Super Hero Pops 2-4pm. To get warmed up and ready to go for the Summer Reading Program we will be transforming ordinary dum dum pops into caped and masked edible superheroes! Parents please note that scissors and glue will be used.
