Schools and Education in the Iowa City Area

Guide to Iowa City Area Schools and Education

When moving to a new area, one of the first and foremost questions a parent asks is, “How are the schools?” We here in the Iowa City area are incredibly fortunate to boast some of the strongest and most successful school districts in the state.

Iowa City, Clear Creek Amana, Solon, West Liberty, West Branch, and College Community (Swisher and Shueyville area) are the main districts in our area. Visit our Ultimate Guide to Neighborhoods and Suburbs for a peek into what it’s like to live in each of those areas, as well as details for each of their school districts. We cannot tell you which school will be the best fit for your child or your family, but we can assure you that we are so lucky to have access to such incredible schools.

Part of ensuring school success for your child is not just choosing the “right” school, but also preparing your child emotionally, socially, and cognitively for a smooth transition. We have compiled some of our best resources on this topic to offer advice and strategies for parents hoping to support their child through this life transition.

Lianna
Lianna is a homesteading mama of three: a sparkly seven-year-old daughter, a joyful five-year-old boy, and a confident three-year-old boy. After graduating from the University of Iowa’s college of education, she started Wondergarten Early Enrichment Home, a multi-age, play-based early childhood program. A self-proclaimed Queen Dabbler, she has a long list of hobbies (from gardening and canning to sewing and painting), and doesn’t mind being only mediocre at all of them. She lives with her husband, mother, three kiddos, dog, cat, rabbits, dwarf goats, and chickens on an acreage in the country. The Cornally family spends their time talking about education, learning how to grow and preserve their own food, and romping around in their woods.
