I looove a good reality check. A big dose of perspective (and Lexapro) is just what the doctor ordered when I’m feeling overwhelmed or like everyone else is doing this Mom Thang better than me. One night I looked at our dinner plates and thought, “Everyone in the entire world is eating a more nutritious and better tasting dinner than we are.”
What can I say? I’m a wee bit dramatic at times. Don’t tell my husband I just admitted that.
But then I took a bite of my spaghetti and I wondered how many other families were using their garlic-bread-from-the-freezer-section to sop up store bought tomato sauce just like we were. We couldn’t possibly be the only ones. Right?
I wanted to know: what are moms eating for dinner at this very moment?
No planning ahead to make sure their plate is appropriately balanced with fruit, vegetables, carbohydrates, and protein.
No elaborate food styling.
No perfect Instagram filter.
Most importantly: No judgment.
I put out a message on social media asking people to send me a picture of what they were eating RIGHT THEN.
The results ranged from elaborate and time consuming to quick and easy. There was homemade comfort food as well as store bought conveniences. Tons of leftovers.
It was a fun peek into the kitchens of my friends to see what the people NOT being paid to post photos of their food were providing for their families. I wasn’t searching for recipes or inspiration, just a little reality check.
It was glorious.
Enjoy!
So tell (or show) us…what are you having for dinner tonight?
