Then Versus Now: Revisiting My Old Blog Posts | Bless This Mess

Parenting is always about growth and change. Not only do our kids grow up, but parenting culture changes with the times. Trends seem to be constantly shifting around issues such as feeding, sleeping, discipline, and other topics. Advice that was once new and cutting edge becomes outdated, or in some cases, dangerous (for example, stomach sleeping used to be considered the “safe” option).

It’s hard to believe, but it’s been almost six years since I started writing for Iowa City Moms! In addition to the shifts found in parenting culture, my family has gone through a lot of changes in the time I’ve been writing for the blog. To that end, I thought it would be fun to go back through my old blog posts and see what has changed and what hasn’t. It’s also been fun to reread my old posts and remember what I was going through at that time to see how I’ve grown as a person, and to see if any advice or trends have changed.

The first post I’m going to revisit is one I wrote in 2014 called “Bless this Mess.” This was a very popular post at the time, and rereading it was like looking in a time capsule. I share my thoughts on what has changed and what hasn’t in the following video.
