Wondering What to Buy at Costco? 8 Favorite Costco Items

In Coralville tucked behind the interstate is a not-so-hidden gem.  Costco offers more than bulk items for offices or a gaggle of kids. While membership is required for this warehouse club, I have found it’s more than worth it for the outstanding customer service, high dollar savings on frequently purchased items, and the following list of my favorite items. See below and rediscover all that Costco has to offer.

Kirkland Brand Household Items

The Costco generic version is life! My favorite is their laundry detergent. The sale price cannot be beat and it lasts forever. I have yet to find a Kirkland Brand fail so be sure to check them all out. I also love their fabric softener dryer sheets and have had great luck with their diapers and wipes as well.

Breakfast Sausages

Delicious and kid approved! Not to mention a great Keto staple. Speaking of Keto…

Almonds

The Blue Diamond Smokehouse Almonds are so good! I’ve not missed chips at all since starting Keto because of these bad boys. When these are on sale at Costco you need to try them!

Claussen Pickles

Only $5.99 for this HUGE jar. A great side option for parties or to pack in lunches.

Kirkland Food Items

Kirkland brand doesn’t disappoint in the food area either! Cheeses are offered in 2 pound blocks, 2 – 2.5 pounds of shredded cheese, and a HUGE bag of cheese sticks–all delicious and affordable. Other Kirkland must-haves are butter, lunch meat, and their protein bars-specifically the cookie dough and brownie ones.

Kirkland Bottled Water

The best price around at only $2.99 for 40 bottles! Stock up when you are hosting a party, packing lunches, or take some along on a family vacation.  Going to a potluck and don’t like to cook? Offer to bring water and grab a bakery item while you are there! Easy and budget-friendly!

Cake

This half sheet cake is soooo good. We get this for every big party we have since it is a STEAL OF A DEAL AT only $18.99 and it serves up to a whopping 48 people. You can grab one already prepared from the cooler or order a custom one with only a 1-day notice required. While the variety is limited compared to other bakeries, you can still customize their offered designs and add messages to them.

Cheap Eats

Most people know about the $1.50 hot dog and soda deal or the $4.99 rotisserie chicken, but have you ordered their whole pizza?  It is HUGE and delicious and another great way to feed a lot of people on a budget. Their ice cream is another favorite of ours and our family of four can easily share one for only $1.65.

I could go on and on but these are my current loves.

What are your Costco favorites?

  1. We only keep the membership for paper towels, organic apples, berries, vine and grape tomatoes, golden potatoes, croissants, ciabatta buns, pork tenderloins, sliced fresh mozzarella, canadian bacon, frozen veggies, organic tomato sauce, sweet corn, fruit pouches and the eventual sale of something we do not really need but “why not, it is a very good price” 😅 Oh, also pizza and churros! They do need to add some of their chocolate/hazelnut as a dip for churros, though 🤤

  2. We get all of our paper products here, toilet paper, paper towels, and tissues. I have so many work dresses from Costco, $9.99 with pockets! Their spinach dip is amazing for any get together and their Korean beef!! You literally can’t beat the price or taste of those HUGE birthday cakes!!

  3. Do you carry Nestos Baby Cornichons? Our local Costco stores in Omaha and LaVista, NE do not carry them any longer. I am hooked on them and wish to find them in the US. I know they come from Greece.
