Celebrate Hanukkah With this Festive Playlist!

2020 has been difficult enough — let’s not subject ourselves to another year of Adam Sandler.

I’m joking (mostly). Not only do I understand the appeal of Adam Sandler’s Hanukkah song, I play it every year. It’s funny and catchy. Plus, it’s a product of mid-90s Saturday Night Live, which I still joyfully quote every time I make sloppy joes or see a van within the vicinity of a river.

Still, Sandler’s song shouldn’t be your only go-to for Hanukkah.

Not only will your kids not catch the references, it’s centered on the premise that Jewish kids feel left out and forgotten. We can do better!

The internet is full of catchy, soulful, and beautiful Hanukkah songs. Here are some of my favorites (yes, Sandler’s in there!), including two new ones from Hamilton stars Leslie Odom Jr. and Daveed Diggs.

Heat up the oil for the latkes, and enjoy Iowa City Mom’s Hanukkah playlist!
