Prep time: 10 minutes
Cook time: 25 minutes
- 1 head cabbage or 1 bundle of asparagus
- 1/4 cup vegetable or olive oil
- 2-3 strips of bacon
- 1 Tbsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
- 1/2 tsp white sugar
Cut strips of bacon into very small pieces. (I prefer to use kitchen shears.) Place into a large sauce on medium heat. Cover and cook for 5-7 minutes. Stir periodically.
While the bacon is cooking, cut the cabbage into strips. Place cabbage and vegetable oil into sauce pan. Cover and allow the cabbage to cook down, about 10 minutes. Once it cooks down, being to stir periodically and add any remaining cabbage. (For Asparagus, cut into 1/2 inch pieces. Stir periodically).
Add garlic powder, salt, pepper, and white sugar. Cover and cook an additional 10 minutes or until cabbage is tender. Stirring periodically.
Enjoy your southern fried cabbage/asparagus!
