Raise your hand if you have some Lego-lovers in your house!
If your hand is up (and I’m guessing it is), you need to check out the “Nature Connects” exhibition. In this award-winning, record-breaking exhibition of art made with Lego pieces by acclaimed artist Sean Kenney, the whole family can marvel at gravity-defying and astoundingly precise structures while discovering new ways of looking at our world!
The Lego exhibition is currently at the Muscatine Art Center, and will be there through February 20, 2022. That gives you about three more weeks to get down to Muscatine and see this amazing display of Lego genius!
“From the miniature majesty of a bonsai tree to the quiet serenity of a Koi fish; from the delicate suspension of a hummingbird on the edge of a flower to the ferocity of a fox on the hunt— Kenney’s art sparks a joyful sense of wonder in those both young and young-at-heart. Using the beloved LEGO bricks as a medium, Nature Connects begs the question: just as LEGO bricks interconnect, how is our natural world interconnected? At times whimsical, gripping, and awe-inspiring, the exhibition is sure to inspire budding artists, ecologists, and builders to dream big!”
Admission is free, and the hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. (a more quiet time to visit is on Tuesday or in the afternoon on Wednesday).
Worried about crowds during the pandemic? We hear you. The facility is large enough that a family group could move through the exhibitions and historic house and avoid being in contact with other visitors. For example, if others are in the Nature Connects exhibition, a group could tour the historic house or spend time in the “Learn to Look” gallery —a hands-on room for kids located on the second floor of the house. Also, the holiday decorations will remain up through the run of the Nature Connects exhibition, so it still has a festive feel for the kiddos!
