I had my first daughter in 2014 and registered for the gear my mom friends and family recommended at the time. After her babyhood ended, I packed everything away and held onto it for a second child, which didn’t happen until seven years later.
When I unpacked the boxes, I came across some items that had a better alternative come along since I last used it. However, I also came across many items that had really stood the test of time — items that, seven years later, are still very much in use by new moms today and remained in great shape.
These are the items I used in 2014, used this past year for my new baby, and still see show up on friends’ baby registries all the time:
Baby Items that Stand the Test of Time
Stokke Tripp Trapp High Chair
I prefer anything with multiple uses, and this high chair is adjustable, so it can also be used as a toddler chair. It has a sleek, minimalistic design, which is excellent for an item that’s going to be in your house for years. You can also separately purchase the removable tray.
Bumbo
I love this little seat! It’s easy to wipe clean and super portable.
Boon Lawn Countertop Drying Rack
This is an easy and aesthetically pleasing way to dry and store bottle parts of all sizes (and other dishes) right by the sink.
JJ Cole Car Seat Cover
I’ve used this same car seat cover with two different infant carriers and it fit both perfectly. It’s an easy (and safe!) way to keep baby protected from cold or rain.
Halo SleepSack Swaddle
Another product with multiple uses! You can swaddle the baby with arms-down, and then help them transition from swaddle to a sleep sack.
Boppy
This is cute, easily washable, and perfect for nursing. It can be used outside of feeding when baby is ready to start sitting and needs some support.
Dr. Brown’s Natural Flow Bottles
I’ve had good luck bottle-feeding both kids with these. They’ve been through the dishwasher about a million times by now, and still look pretty good!
Brica Car Mirror
This is a total necessity for an anxious mom like myself. It easily attaches in the back of my car and brings a lot of peace of mind knowing I can see that everything’s OK with a quick glance.
If I were thinking about another baby, I would still continue to hold onto these items, because they are far from obsolete!
