This morning, I took a moment to bask in utmost beauty.
I was driving to Iowa City as the sun was just peeking its way over the hills on the horizon of the Kalona countryside. And what a show it gave! I watched as the sky filled with several shades of blues, pinks, oranges, and yellows. I was in awe of the artistry that was unfolding before my eyes. It sounds so cliché, but it actually took my breath away. I found myself wondering, “How long has it been since I’ve seen the sunrise? Is it always this gorgeous? What have I been missing?”
I realized…. in the daily hustle of rushing kids to school, feeding the family, attempting to keep the house clean with a toddler in tow, and somehow managing to brush my teeth all in time to squeeze in a workout, I have forgotten how wondrous our surroundings are. I have literally been looking the other way – too preoccupied by life’s everyday tasks.
I want to go back to that time when priorities and responsibilities were simple. Back when you took a moment to actually stop and smell the roses. A time when you sat down, listened to the rhythm of the rain, and relaxed while you smiled at the simplicity of it all. You noticed it then. Life was not complicated. You saw beauty in each day!
I encourage you to try to find your way back to that place, whether it be through a hobby such as running or pottery or even yoga. Maybe it comes through cozying up with a good book while sipping on a cup of hot tea. Or it could be that moment during a worship service where you feel the Spirit thick like a summer fog.
However you find your inner peace in the chaos of life, just make it happen. Make THAT a priority. I promise, you’ll be soo thrilled to, once again, observe the beauty in things! Happy hunting, my friends! =)
Well said Tara! Applies to all…no matter your age or stage of life…
