Yesterday we introduced you to three of our new contributors. Today we introduce you to 2 more: Sherri and Meghann!
Meet Sherri
Sherri is a transplant from northeast Oregon and moved to Iowa City seven years ago to get her Ph.D. in Higher Education and Student Affairs at The University of Iowa. Although she had every intention of moving back to the Pacific Northwest after earning her degree, the corn fields were more alluring than she could have imagined….and she met a boy, fell in love, got married, had a baby, and planted new roots in the Midwest. Today, Sherri lives on the east side of Iowa City with her husband Kyle and their 4 1/2 year old daughter Aissa. She commutes during the week to her job as Director of First Year Experience at St. Ambrose University in Davenport.
Her favorite things about Iowa City are, in no particular order: Walking on the ped mall with her family and a cup of coffee on Saturday morning, the Farmer’s Market, Football at Kinnick Stadium, and the plentiful local restaurants for date nights and happy hours with girlfriends. She is excited to join ICMB because she believes that moms need to have a space to share their experiences with one another, to normalize our fears, share the burdens we bear as mothers balancing multiple roles, and to reach out to those who may not have a built-in support system at home or with their extended families.
Meet Meghann
I met my husband Nick Westergaard when we were both students at the University of Iowa. I feel fortunate to have found someone who shares my love of sci-fi/fantasy stories, movie trivia, and feisty political discussions. Nick works as the front man Brand Driven Digital and I am a stay-at-home mom who assists with digital marketing projects and copy writing duties. We live in Coralville and are the parents of five children ranging in age from infant to teenager.
In 2009 I began practicing yoga while working on a website project for a new local studio. I was immediately hooked and earned my 200-hour certification in 2011. I’ve taught classes at Zenergi Hot Yoga, Sweet Feet Yoga, and Core Fitness. My other interests include reading, watching movies with my family, and writing.
Nick & I love raising our kids in the Iowa City/Coralville area. We are thankful for the wonderful schools, numerous cultural opportunities, and the close-knit community atmosphere the area offers. Some of our favorite local activities include browsing at Daydream Comics, Thursday night movies at Backpocket Brewery, and visiting the Coralville Public Library.
I’ve been on this parenting journey for quite awhile (at this writing, my oldest child is 13). I’ve loved watching my kids grow and discover the things they’re passionate about. I look forward to sharing my experiences with this amazing community of moms.
