Friday, September 5th
Friday Night Concert Series, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. in the Ped Mall (downtown Iowa City). Bring your family downtown for a night of great music and fun! This week’s performers will be Kevin BF Burt & Big Medicine. Rain location: Chauncey Swan parking ramp. Free.
Saturday, September 6th
Swamp Fox Festival, All day in Marion. The 25th annual Swamp Fox Festival will celebrate Marion’s heritage and also help mark Marion’s 175th anniversary. Events kick off with a family breakfast, followed by a 5k run/walk, farmer’s market and vendor booths, parade at 10:15am, classic cars on display, live entertainment, Buckskinners Encampment, children’s activities at Lowe Park from 4:30-7:30pm, and more. The grand fireworks finale will take place at 9pm.
11th Annual Art & Flower Festival, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Dave and Anna Geyer’s farm, 20 miles west of Iowa City. This free admission, family-friendly event will include 20+ local artist booths selling everything from pottery to fiber art and metal works. Festival attendees can enjoy a slice of wood-fired oven pizza or a homemade ice cream cone. The event also features live music and kid’s activities. All are welcome to gather flowers and herbs in Anna’s Cutting Garden, creating their own bouquets to take home and admire. Artist registration fees, food proceeds and free-will donations will help support Iowa Valley Habitat’s mission to provide safe, decent and affordable housing for families in our area.
Fly Fishing with TAKO, 10:00 a.m. at Liberty Centre in North Liberty. Come and Learn to Fly Fish with Take A Kid Outdoors (TAKO) and the Hawkeye Fly Fishing Association (HFFA) at Liberty Centre, North Liberty. HFFA will be presenting information on Fly fishing. Come learn to fly cast and to tie flies. Maybe even catch that big fish! This is a wonderful event that is great for kids and adults of all ages. Bring a fishing pole if you have one, if not some will be available. Lunch will be provided. Note: This is not a peanut/nut free event. This event is FREE and OPEN to the public. Advance registration is requested, but not required.
Fireworks on the River, Noon to 10:00 p.m. at Ellis Park in Cedar Rapids. 1/4 mile boat drag races starting at 1pm followed by a lighted boat parade at dusk, ending with a fantastic fireworks display along the banks of the Cedar River at Ellis park/harbor! A free event open to the public brought to you by the Cedar Boat Club!
