Can you believe FALL is here already? It seems like the Summer came and went so fast this year! We are not ready for cooler temps, falling snow, and those two words we came to hate last year: polar vortex. So, before you give in for the year and spend your days inside, join us for a SUPER fun morning at Lower City Park (shelter 12) this weekend, where we will have fun for the entire family!
First things first, we have our 5K at 9am. (For details on the race, click here) But, don’t forget, we ALSO have our Health Fair going on at that same time! Feel free to come while the 5K is going on, and browse the booths with your families. We will have representatives from The Family Dental Center, Massage Heights, Running Wild Iowa City, Jazzercise Iowa City, the UICH Safety Store, Advocare, and Bright Futures Chiropractic. All of these booths will be bursting with information and preventative care tips for you and your family to make safe, healthy choices in your lives together!
During the Health Fair and 5K, the kiddos can entertain themselves with some sidewalk chalk, run around on the playground, or get their faces painted from one of our lovely volunteers! And don’t forget: ALL kids are welcome to run the 1/4 mile and/or 1 mile Kids Fun Runs, and EVERY kid who crosses the finish line will win a medal to take home!
And for the adults looking for some activities as well: In addition to their informative booths, both Massage Heights and Jazzercise Iowa City will also be offering pre- and post-race activities, including chair massages and cool-down dance sessions!
In the end, we want ALL of you families to know that you are MORE than welcome to join us this Saturday, whether or not you are running/walking/jogging the 5K! There is no charge to enter the Health Fair, and there is also no charge for any of the kids activities that day (including the Fun Runs). We want this to be an opportunity for your families to enjoy another day of sunshine (before they are gone for the year!) and spend some time with other families from our community. If you arrive during the 5K, please consider standing at the finish line for a few minutes to cheer on the runners who have trained and anticipated this event (especially all of those first-time runners!). And same goes for the kids races–last year, many of us moms were brought to tears (happy tears!) as we watched our kiddos cross the finish line amidst all of the applause and screams from well-wishing moms and dads on the sidelines!
What a great moment! We hope to see you there this weekend!
