Whether it’s a date night you’re looking for or a fun activity for the family, our partners at the Old Creamery Theatre have so much happening in 2016 that you’re sure to find something that fits!
The Old Creamery Theatre is celebrating their 45th anniversary this year, their sapphire celebration. They are proud to be the longest running, live, professional theatre in the state of Iowa. If you’ve never been before, they are a must see! Located in the Amana Colonies, they are just around the corner – only a 30 minute drive from Iowa City.
For Kids/Families:
They have four Theatre for Young Audiences shows in 2016 that welcome children of all ages to see the magic of live theatre unfold on the stage! The shows usually run a little over an hour to an hour and a half long, but there’s a nice 15 minute intermission in the middle so the kids have time to stretch their legs and take a quick potty break. After the show, everyone gets the opportunity to meet the cast, get their autographs, and take photos with them! It’s definitely a fun perk! Find out more on the Old Creamery Theatre website.
Their four Theatre for Young Audiences shows in 2016 are:
- The Frog and The Princess opening on March 26 and running through April 9
- The Emperor’s New Clothes opening on June 18 and running through July 2
- Miss Nelson Has A Field Day opening on September 17 and running through October 1
- The Elves and The Shoemaker opening on November 26 and running through December 17.

All their Theatre for Young Audiences shows are family friendly, Rated G, and only cost $10 per person! Seating is limited, so reservations are recommended!
For Adults/Families:
Now if you’re looking for a date night out, the Old Creamery Theatre has six Main Stage Shows, four Studio Stage Shows, and five Special Events in 2016 – with shows almost every Wednesday through Sunday throughout the year! Steeple People, Million Dollar Quartet, Shear Madness, Grease, Nana’s Naughty Knickers, and Winter Wonderettes are their 2016 Main Stage Shows. Children ages 5+ are allowed at the Main Stage shows and the show ratings are all either G or PG.
For Adults Only:
In 2016 The Studio Stage Goes To Hollywood, which means that there are four Hollywood themed shows in 2016! The Studio Stage is an intimate venue located just a stones throw from the Main Stage. The 2016 shows are: Completely Hollywood Abridged, I’ll Eat You Last: A Chat With Sue Mengers, Buyer and Cellar, and Me & Jezebel. These shows are not recommended for children as the ratings are either PG-13 or R. The shows feature fresh, exciting new material that is sure to make you laugh and laugh and laugh so make sure to check out the show descriptions online here.
Special Events:
The five special events in 2016 are:
- A Tribute to Elvis on March 26
- Branson on the Road: A Salute To America on July 13 and 14
- Ole and Lena: “Ole Plays Nursemaid – Dial 911!” on August 30 and 31
- Dean Martin Tribute on October 8
- John Denver Tribute on November 12
