Start planning with this Guide to Fall Family Events in the Iowa City Area! Get your calendars ready, and choose a few activities to take in. What: Iowa City Farmers Market Kids Day
When: Saturday, Sept. 11, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Where: Iowa City Farmers Market, Chauncey Swan Parking Ramp
Know Before You Go: The Kids Day at the Market is where kids get to be a vendor for a day. Kid vendors will set up outside of the ramp and offer items that they have made, grown, or produced themselves for sale.

What: Aplefest
When: Saturday, Sept. 18, 10 a.m. – 10 p.m.
Where: Amana Colonies
Know before you go: Aplefest is a celebration of all things apple in the Amana Colonies. You’ll enjoy apple samples, treats, and the chance to take in the history and charm of the Amana Colonies.

What: Colony Pumpkin Patch Opening Day
When: Saturday, Sept. 18, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Where: Colony Pumpkin Patch, North Liberty
Know Before You Go: Celebrate the opening day of one of our favorite local pumpkin patches! You’ll enjoy lots of games, fall-themed treats, and of course, picking your very own pumpkin. The cost to attend is $8.

What: Nature Play: Birds of Prey
When: Sunday, Sept. 19, 2 p.m. – 3 p.m.
Where: F.W. Kent Park
Know Before You Go: Come meet, discuss, and learn about birds of prey from the experts at Raptorology. See these fascinating creatures up close and enjoy a beautiful day at Kent Park.

What: Maquoketa Flea Market & Antique Show
When: Sunday, Sept. 19, 2021, 8: 30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Where: Jackson County Fairgrounds
Know Before You Go: The show has been in existence for 37 years and is one of Iowa’s largest with over 150 exhibitors (indoor and outdoor) selling a vast array of antiques and vintage items. If you are a collector, antique dealer, or simply a nostalgia seeker or bargain hunter, then this is one show you do not want to miss. Early bird hours are available for an extra admission fee. Tickets are $4. Ages 10 and younger are free.

What: Farm Cycle – Ten Year Anniversary
When: Sunday, Sept. 19, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Where: Iowa City Bike Library
Know Before You Go: This event benefits the Bike Library. Enjoy a day of bicycling local farms, food, and ferments.

Where: Iowa Children’s Museum
Know Before You Go: Join the ICM the last Friday of the month for FREE admission and a STEM activity. Giving all children opportunities to play, regardless of their background or ability to pay, is the heart of the museum’s mission and it is thrilled to invite the community into its space for free events once again.

Know Before You Go: Bring your family to pick out your pumpkins, shop the country store, and have some family fun! Activities include hayrack rides, bouncy houses, slingshots, 18 hole mini-golf, giant tic tac toe, giant checkerboard tables, teeter-totters, life-size connect four, giant Jenga, photo ops, candy corn bag toss, pumpkin bowling, pumpkin slide, corn hole, and more! The cost is $8. Kids age two and younger are free.

What: An Evening of Hocus Pocus
When: Saturday, Sept. 25, 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Where: Bloomsburry Farm
Know Before You Go: The movie will start as soon as it gets dark! This event will take place outside, with the movie projected onto a bar. Ticket includes admission to the movie and many farm activities that will be open until the movie begins!

Know Before You Go: The in-person festival returns, but Northside Oktoberfest in a Box is also available. For 2021, the Northside Oktoberfest will be composed of three different elements: Iowa City BrewFest, Festival in a Box, and the Outdoor Bier Hall.

What: Summer of the Arts’ Free Movie Series at the Drive In: Hotel Transylvania
When: Saturday, Oct. 2, doors open at 6 p.m., movie begins between 7-7:15 p.m.
Where: Iowa City Municipal Airport
Know Before You Go: This is the last movie of 2021! No registration required this time. First-come-first-serve for attendees and you’ll have the option of sitting in your car or sitting up front.

Know Before You Go: Swimmers ages 2 – 12 years old are welcome to jump in and grab a pumpkin. Participants will leave with a baggie of stickers and decorations to decorate their pumpkin at home! This event is $5 per child and registration is required.

What: Inclusion Fright Night Dance

The costume parade is 10 a.m., where kids and parents gather at the north side of the Chauncey Swan Parking Ramp. Stick around to decorate a pumpkin to take home!
