If you haven’t seen this, you need to. Colorful chalk creations line the streets of downtown Iowa City. These pops of creativity are so beautiful and unique — they make you want to jump inside — like a scene out of Disney movie classic Mary Poppins.
In August, community members and local artists will fill the streets of downtown Iowa City with unique chalk art pieces and we will “rock” various Iowa musical talents throughout the day while the 75 artists work.
I am so excited for MidWestOne’s Rock the Chalk Downtown Iowa City annual event!
MidWestOne‘s Rock the Chalk Downtown Iowa City
When: Friday, Aug. 12, 2022
Where: Downtown Iowa City
Details: Rock the Chalk will be held on the streets surrounding the downtown MidWestOne building, 102 S. Clinton St.
This event starts in the morning for the artists as they draw their chalk masterpieces. The artwork is ready for full viewing by late afternoon. Stop by throughout the day to see the beginning, middle, and end—or just come in the evening to see the finished work and participate in the family fun!
Enjoy live music, from noon to 8 p.m. The lineup includes:
- Andrew Hoyt: 1-2 p.m.
- Soft and Low: 2-3 p.m.
- Ace Jones: 3-4 p.m.
- Sophie Mitchell: 5-6 p.m.
- Sara Routh: 6-7 p.m.
- TheZeffsterr: 7-8 p.m.
Free, family activities will take place from 5-8 p.m. and includes, tie-dye, bubbles, face painting, hair braiding/tinseling and airbrush tattoos. In addition to a photobooth, spin art, and a “Not a Box Party” presented by the Iowa Children’s Museum.
Attendees can also be part of the Community Art Quilt, which will be available all day!
