Saturday, July 11th
Cruis’n for the Kids Car Show 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Cruis’n for the Kids Car Show was created to raise funds for the UI Children’s Hospital and to get the next generation of young people interested in classic cars. They donate all proceeds from the event to help build the “new” University of Iowa Children’s Hospital. This event is held at Kinnick Stadium and is free to attend. There are activities for kids young and old. Mrs. Hinky Dinky the Clown will be there to create special balloons for everyone!! A bean toss with prizes for the kids…everyone is a winner. Hot Wheels Drag Races!! Free diecast cars for all kids!! Great food and 50s and 60s DJ music will please your taste buds and ears!! 200 plus cars are expected to be there so it definitely will be a good time!
North Liberty Blues & BBQ 8:00 a.m. With the North Liberty Community Food Pantry turkey trot beginning at 8 a.m. there are numerous activities happening throughout the entire day. A kids zone beginning at noon and several bands, and not to mention food, will be available at Centennial Park in North Liberty. This event is FREE, so definitely bring your family out for a good time. Can’t come until the evening? Well you are in luck, as there is a hot air balloon glow that begins at 8:30 p.m.
Iowa Imagination Station Miniature Rescue Horses 10-11 a.m. Miniature rescue horses Tater Tot and Bud will pay the Imagination Station a visit on Saturday. Join us to pet and give treats to our favorite rescue minis. Cost is $5 per child and includes admission to the Imagination Station for our Jolly Roger Pirate Ship, Fairyland, Carnival activities, car was and much more. The Station will be open until 12:30 p.m.
Free Movie Series: Spaceballs 8:15 p.m. (or sundown). Join Summer of the Arts on the UI Pentacrest for the 2015 Free Movies Series season! Bring your lawn chairs and/or blankets and choose your own spot on the lawn outside of Macbride Hall under the shade of the beautiful trees! Movies start at sundown, so anywhere from 8:15 – 9 p.m. during the summer.
Sunday, July 12th
Nature Play: Micro-Monsters 1:30-3:00 p.m. Explore your world with this free outdoor program. Active learning activities get the whole family involved in scientific exploration and observation. There is no charge to join but registration is required. Event is taking place at F.W. Kent Park, 2048 HWY 6 NW , Oxford IA
Geology Rocks 3-4 p.m. Calling all rock hounds! Staff from the UI Thin Section Lab in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences are visiting MNH with cool rock and mineral samples from their laboratory and demonstrations of their equipment. Visitors of all ages can stop by to learn more about geology and bring in a rock for identification by the experts. Event is taking place at the Museum of Natural History, Macbride Hall , U of I Campus Iowa City
Sweet Corn Festival 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Head over to Riverside for the Sass Family Farm Sweet Corn Festival. Live Music, Balloon Jump, fresh sweet corn cooked on the farm (first ear is on us) plus refreshments & other food available. There will also be games & a scavenger hunt for the kids, shucking contest, airsoft shooting gallery, hayrack rides, fresh produce (yes including sweet corn to take home) and baked goods available, a face Painter for the kids and more! Oh yes – FREE Admission and the first ear of corn is FREE- if you want more you will need to purchase.
