Another weekend is approaching and we have some great events happening. Check out my top picks and head out with the family for a weekend of fun!
Saturday, July 18th
Ride Across Coralville 9:15-2:30 p.m. RAGBRAI is coming to Coralville soon so kick of the week with a bike ride across Coralville. This is an activity designed for kids, giving them the chance to experience the fun in a kid-sized and kid-friendly way. R.A.C. will begin at the Coralville Recreation Center and will end at the Coralville Community Aquatic Center with entertainment, games, & contests at the designated stops along the way, and free admittance to the Aquatic Center when we end our day. The bike ride is divided into two groups: the younger group riding a 6 mile loop and the older group riding a 12 mile loop. Each participant will receive a t-shirt and free lunch for participating and have a chance at prizes throughout the day. Parents are welcome to ride along and join in the fun. Your own bicycle and helmet are required to ride. Riders will be on bike safe zones and trails the entire ride. This event is for children in grades 3-9th
Solon Beef Days 10 a.m. Solon Beef Days continues with 5k and 1-mile fun run, parade (10 a.m.), paper airplane toss, big wheel races, clown, waterball fight, live music and more.
Kids Club at Michaels: Minion Project 10-12 p.m. Drop in. Take home a completed project. Just $2 per child for 30 minutes of creative craft fun. Ages 3 and up, supplies included.
Embrace Your Geekness 10-12 p.m. Come celebrate “Embrace Your Geekness Day” with TAKO (Take A Kid Outdoors). Adults gather your kids, come and embrace your geeky side with fun, science related activities. Be prepared to get wet and possible sprayed with bubbles and “washable paint”. TAKO will be hosting an event Saturday, July 18th at the Iowa City’s Terry Trueblood Recreation Area. To get there take Gilbert Street/Sand Road south to intersection with Sycamore Street. We will be at Shelter 2! Please bring a squirt gun/water blaster/other to the event if you have one. The fish might be biting, so bring your fishing pole if you have one. We will also have poles and bait available. Remember a 2015 fishing license is required for anglers… 16 years and older. Licenses can be purchased online or at local stores such as Fin and Feather, Scheels, Hyvee and more. Participants should dress to get wet and muddy. We may be using paint and dyes. Dress in layers and be prepared for a range of weather conditions. Bring a hat, work gloves, sunglasses, sunscreen, insect repellant, drinking water, and any other items you may need to be comfortable in the outdoors. Participants are encouraged to bring a digital camera and/or binoculars. Lunch will be served at 11:30 AM. This event is FREE and OPEN to the public. Community Day 2015 with LifePointe Community Outreach 11-2 p.m. Come one come all. Back this year and bigger than ever. Come be a part of bringing Unity to our community. We have prepared for you a day of fun for the whole family and it is FREE.
The Picture Show: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory 10 a.m. The Picture Show family and children’s series is curated by FilmScene and proudly presented by MidWestOne Bank. The ongoing series features the best in all ages programming. Summer shows on Saturday & Tuesday at 10am and Thursday at 3pm. All tickets are only $2.50, making The Picture Show a reliable, affordable weekly entertainment choice.
Family Day Painting on the Pentacrest 5-8 p.m. Celebrate the Summer of the Arts with outdoor painting on the Pentacrest! Painting will start at 5 p.m.and conclude with plenty of time to make your way to your blankets to watch “The Davinci Code” on the big screen under the stars! Tables, chairs, and all supplies are provided for the painting portion. Please bring your own blankets and chairs to set up for the movie. Cost is $25 a seat and registration is required.

Sunday Fun day at the Iowa City Library 2-4 p.m. Make a sun catcher to bring some colorful fun to any window.
